Throughout the month of May, the City of Huntington Beach is celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month. AAPI Heritage Month is an annual celebration that recognizes the historical and cultural contributions of individuals and groups of Asian and Pacific Islander descent to the United States. As of 2019, there were about 22.9 million people of Asian or Pacific Islander descent in the United States. This month, we pay tribute to the unique journey of all AAPI immigrants and citizens in the United States and their unique life experiences, traditions, and cultures.
The theme for AAPI Heritage Month 2022 is “Advancing Leaders Through Collaboration.” The City’s Human Relations Committee will present a Cultural Cinema Showcase featuring stories and storytellers of underrepresented groups. Using the arts as a bridge to promote human dignity, films in this upcoming cycle are in honor of AAPI Heritage month and have been selected by jurists and shared with the community.
Everyone is invited to enjoy the Cinema Showcase at the Huntington Beach Public Library on Thursday, May 19 with refreshments and photos at 5:30 pm, and the screening at 6 pm. Meet the filmmakers during a panel hosted by Quincy Cho from “Shameless” on Showtime. Admission is free, but registration is required at www.thecinemashowcase.com.
