The City of Huntington Beach added a second “Mobi-Mat” from the boardwalk to the water, just south of Huntington Street and PCH to make beach-going an easier task for visitors and residents with disabilities. These mats, which are five feet wide and made out of recycled polyester, begin at the disabled parking lot south of the Pier and provide a stable surface for easier wheelchair and stroller access across the sand and to the water’s edge during high tide.  The City has also added a Mobi-Mat that runs parallel to the ocean, perfect for walking along the shoreline.

“This is going to give our community, especially those with disabilities, more access to the ocean, and we’re really excited in Huntington Beach to be committed to increasing access,” said City Council Member Natalie Moser.

The cost for the purchase and installation of this second Mobi-Mat was supported by the organization “Warriors with Hope,” which donated $10,000 to help disabled visitors better access the City’s beautiful shoreline. Warriors with Hope works to support amputees and cancer survivors with education, financial support, and guidance to those who need it the most.  More information about this 501c3 non-profit charity is available at www.warriorswithhope.org.

The first Mobi Mat in Huntington Beach was installed in May 2021 and is located north of the Pier, near PCH and 6th Street.  The City is continuing to identify other locations along the beach that can benefit from this new and innovative tool for our community with disabilities.
