CITY BUDGETS $1.8M FOR BEAUTIFICATION PROJECTS

Beginning in January 2022, the City’s Public Works Department will be investing in various improvements to Surf City’s corridors and arterial roads.  With a combined total of $1.8 million budgeted for the Arterial Beautification Project and Citywide Mobility and Corridor Improvement Project, the City will be improving access points for people with disabilities; refreshed medians; and the planting of over 200 trees along our roads.  Public Works is also undertaking separate efforts to replace entry monuments, wayfinding signage, traffic signals, and street lighting to improve navigation throughout the City.

Recently, the City planted 200 new trees throughout Southeast Huntington Beach streets, which will provide shade and beautification throughout this neighborhood.   The City has also installed wayfinding signage in partnership with Visit HB, Huntington Beach’s destination management organization.  Furthermore, landscaping improvements that include more water efficient irrigation systems will enhance our medians and frontages to replace aged landscaping. Locations for these corridor improvements include:

  • Newland Tree Planting (Atlanta to Yorktown)
  • Bushard Tree Planting (Brookhurst to Adams)
  • Indianapolis Tree Planting (Newland to Bushard)
  • Adams Tree Planting (Magnolia to Brookhurst)
  • Warner Ave. Median Planting
  • Banning Median

Other key projects call for mobility improvements with newprotected bike lanes at Seapoint, Goldenwest, Delaware, and 17th Street.

The City anticipates all of these projects will be completed by July 1, 2022. We will keep you updated on all of our improvement projects over the next several months!
