City Hosts Annual Overnight Family Campout in Central Park

Nothing is better than a relaxing weekend spent outdoors with nature, especially in your own backyard. This past weekend, the Community & Library Services Department hosted its annual Overnight Family Campout in Huntington Central Park. This event has been a staple in within the community since 2005 where families come together for an overnight camping experience filled with activities and entertainment throughout the weekend in the heart of Surf City’s biggest park. This year, we welcomed over 100 families for two days of camping and family activities including:

  • Rock painting crafts,
  • An interactive drum performance by Taiko,
  • A self-led scavenger hunt,
  • Bounce houses,
  • A reptile presentation by Kids Reptiles,
  • A dance party, and
  • A movie screening of The Croods.

Campers were treated to a pizza dinner on Saturday night, and then the Lions Club cooked up a pancake breakfast on Sunday. The City has been collaborating with the Lions Club for this event for many years, providing campers a warm breakfast on the second day of their trip.
