The City of Huntington Beach will be hosting a Town Hall on Monday, May 9 at 6:00 p.m. in City Hall Council Chambers for all residents interested in learning more about the County’s and City’s coyotes management efforts. A presentation will be given by representatives from Orange County Animal Care on countywide efforts. Staff from the Huntington Beach Police Department, Huntington Beach Fire Department, and Marine Safety will be in attendance to address resident concerns and questions at the conclusion of the presentation.
The Huntington Beach Police Department has been tracking and conducting trapping efforts of coyotes throughout the City over the last several months. These efforts, as well as resident education, will continue. The Police Department has been in contact with the California Department of Fish & Wildlife as well as Orange County Animal Care regarding the coyote population in Huntington Beach. Coyotes have become a topic of much discussion not only within Huntington Beach, but statewide. The California Department of Fish & Wildlife provided a comprehensive presentation relating to this subject at the City Council meeting held on May 3.
Managing coyotes in Huntington Beach takes the cooperation and partnership of the entire community. We ask that residents take the following tips into consideration:
- Do not leave food out overnight
- Always keep an eye on cats and small dogs
- Do not leave pets outdoors overnight
- Keep your yard well-maintained and harvest fruit/vegetables regularly
- Use the MyHB application to report aggressive coyotes
