The Main Street branch library, located in beautiful downtown Huntington Beach, will continue with its “Coffee and Culture” speaker series about all things Surf City. This coming Tuesday, October 25 at 5:30 pm, enjoy a look back at the early history days of surfing in Huntington Beach, from its first surfers, shapers, clubs and contests. We’ll see the roles George Freeth and Duke Kahanamoku played in introducing surfing to HB, meet the first group of “surf groms” to take over the pier, try to solve the mysterious demise of HB’s original surf shop, and see how a local dog inspired the first ever surf club. Through historic photos and recorded first-hand accounts, this evening of story-talk will showcase how these conditions, and more created the ground swell for what would become one of the most famous surf towns in the world. Doors open at 5:30pm, and the program begins promptly at 6:00pm. Registration is required. Click here to save your spot https://hbpl.libcal.com/event/9543764.
