Additionally, the Huntington Beach Fire Department recommends these simple tips to help you stay safe and healthy in the heat:

· PLAN YOUR DAY. Avoid the sun if you can, staying indoors from 10am to 3pm when the rays are strongest. Try to plan outdoor activities early in the morning or later in the evening.

· DRINK WATER. Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated.

· STAY IN THE SHADE. Stay in the shade wherever you can and wear wide-brimmed hats as well as sunscreen.

· CHECK ON OTHERS. Check in regularly on those who are at a higher risk of heat-related illnesses. This can include seniors, children, pregnant women, and those with medical conditions.

· WEAR SUMMER CLOTHES. Choose lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing to help you stay cool.

· BEWARE OF HEAT-RELATED ILLNESS. Symptoms of heat-related illness can include dizziness, fatigue, fainting, headaches, and muscle cramps. If you experience these symptoms, you may need to seek medical attention.

· DON’T FORGET YOUR PETS. Animals are at risk of heat-related illness too, so make sure to provide them plenty of water and shade when outdoors. Consider wetting your animal down when the temperatures soar.

· NEVER LEAVE CHILDREN OR PETS IN A CAR. Temperatures inside a car can quickly skyrocket to deadly levels.

· STAY COOL. Stay indoors in an air-conditioned environment, when possible.
