The City of Huntington Beach Human Relations Committee, in collaboration with the Vans and Orange County Human Relations, will be hosting HB Listens Dialogue Circlesat 6:30 p.m.on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at the Huntington Beach Art Center, located at 538 Main Street in Huntington Beach. HB Listens Dialogue Circles are intended to create an inclusive community where all people are respected, valued, and free from discrimination and violence.
“All of us come from different backgrounds and experiences that provide many unique perspectives to offer,” said Mayor Barbara Delgleize. “We want to provide our residents with a safe forum and opportunity to share their own unique view and feel comfortable doing so. By being more open about our viewpoints we hope to continuously develop a community more connected to one another.”
Dialogue circle topics will vary but emphasize the overarching theme engrained in the Vans U.S. Open of Surfing event. Topics include:
- Protecting our local environment
- Societal responsibility in caring for all
- Benefits of listening to different points of view
Participants will create their own call to action by focusing on ways to discover, connect, and engage with their community. This commitment will be revisited with a follow-up event in October, including local leaders for open discussion. The City of Huntington Beach and Vans recognize the responsibility we have to inspire our youth and community in respecting one another and protecting the environment for future generations to come.

The Vans U.S. Open of Surfing takes place in Huntington Beach beginning Saturday, July 30 through Sunday, August 7. The nine-day event offers a full calendar of engaging activities and events for the entire community to enjoy.
