Have you stopped to smell the roses at City Hall? For the 59th year, a new rose bush will be planted this month at the Civic Center Rose Garden in honor of the reigning Miss Huntington Beach Queen Gisell Gochman. The ceremony will take place Wednesday, June 15, at 11:30 am, at the City of Huntington Beach Civic Center Rose Garden, located outside the Council Chambers.
A Huntington Beach High School alumna, Gisell Gochman is currently a student at the University of California, Los Angeles. She was crowned Miss Huntington Beach 2021-2022 at the annual scholarship competition last October, which has long been sponsored by the Sand Dollars of Huntington Beach.
“The Miss Huntington Beach Scholarship Competition looks for young women who are confident, intuitive, hardworking, and compassionate,” states Shirley Lewis, Sand Dollars’ Executive Director. According to Lewis, “Contestants should be service-driven, have a sense of unique personal style and a desire to succeed.”
Applications for the next Miss HB Scholarship competition are available at www.misshuntingtonbeach.org.
The Miss Huntington Beach Scholarship Competition has been the Sand Dollars’ primary service project since 1977. This project awards scholarships to the Queen and her Court to use towards tuition, books, and other education expenses.
