Peer Support Dog, Kingman, Joins HB Fire Dept

The Huntington Beach Fire (HBFD) has welcomed a new canine crewmember to the Department. Kingman, a 3-year old black lab, just started as a Peer Support Dog with the HBFD in February of this year. A new role for the Department, the Peer Support Dog provides emotional support to members of the Fire Department, Police Department, and the community. The addition of Kingman is meant as a way to aid members of the City’s public safety team in overcoming trauma and emotional grief experienced in the workplace and their day to day operations.

Kingman was generously donated to the Huntington Beach Fire Department by the Patriotic Service Dog Foundation, a non-profit organization focused on serving Military and First Responder Veterans by raising awareness for their needs and providing Service Dogs to those who may benefit from long-term mental and physical assistance. Kingman, and his handler Kane, recently graduated from a multi-month training program provided by the Patriotic Service Dog Foundation, certifying Kingman as a Facilities Dog. Rescued by the Mojave County Animal Shelter, Kingman was found in Kingman, Arizona.

Kingman has quickly become part of the HB Fire family. Blending right in with his fire teammates while working at the station with his handler Kane. In his off time, he lives at home with Kane and his family. He makes fast friends with everyone and has so far proven to be an integral part of our Huntington Beach community. The support and love Kingman provides not only enhances community appearances but also has proven crucial in supporting our Police and Fire Department with recent loss.
