Republic Services May Be Restored This Week

This morning, Republic Services indicated that the labor strike that abruptly halted trash collection services throughout Huntington Beach may draw to a close this week.  Last night, Republic Services reached a tentative labor agreement with their labor union in Anaheim and expressed optimism that a similar agreement is near for the labor union serving Huntington Beach.

”I am hopeful that the progress being made on labor negotiations in other cities will lead to a positive outcome here in Huntington Beach,” said Mayor Barbara Delgleize.  “The need for regular trash service in our City is of critical importance, and I encourage Republic to work towards an expedient resolution, so that they may meet their contractual obligations to our community.”

As a result of the agreement in Anaheim, Republic has committed to increased staffing in Huntington Beach, and customers may experience more reliable trash collection services starting tomorrow, December 17th.  More information will be forthcoming, as Republic Services works through its labor negotiations and provides the City with a status update later today.

In the meantime, please be aware that limited trash collection services are ongoing.  Continue to place your trash bins out on the curb on your regularly scheduled pick-up day.  If collection does not happen that day, please continue to leave your bins out until your trash is picked up.

For residents and businesses with a dire need to dispose trash in the interim, please utilize five trash drop-off locations that are open from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.  Those locations are Edison Park and Community Center, Greer Park, Meadowlark Golf Club, Murdy Park and Community Center and the Public Works Yard.  Staff will be onsite at each location to help unload heavy, bulkier items.

Updated information will continue to be shared with the community on the City’s social media platforms and www.SurfCityBreak.com.
