Marine Safety Staff Prepare for Flood Events

With winter right around the corner, City lifeguards are busy preparing to respond to swiftwater and flood events. On Wednesday, November 29, they participated in a rescue training in conjunction with Lifeguards from Del Mar, Imperial Beach, and Solana Beach. The training took place at the mouth of the Del Mar River in San Diego County.

In addition to basic swiftwater rescue techniques, more advanced skills, such as operating inflatable rescue boats (IRBs), were covered. IRBs are invaluable in swiftwater and surf rescues and are used by lifeguards around the world for daily and emergency operations.

The Del Mar lifeguards were generous in allowing Huntington Beach Marine Safety members to participate in the training and expand an ever-evolving skill set to provide the highest level of service to the public.

City Employees Contribute Food Donations for Robyne’s Nest

This past month, City employees from the Police Department, Fire Department, Central Library, the Public Works Yard, and City Hall contributed non-perishable food items for students through Robyne’s Nest. Needless to say, City employees were extremely generous in supporting the organization! Hundreds of pounds of food were picked up for Robyne’s Nest by 40 riders from the Indian Motorcycle Riders Group. Food will be distributed to local low-income/homeless students prior to their two-week winter break. If you would like to contribute or learn more about Robyne’s Nest, please visit their website.
