Mayor’s 1st Town Hall

On Thursday, March 16, Mayor Strickland hosted his first town hall event at the Murdy Community Center. Huntington Beach Police and Fire Department personnel provided presentations, which focused on public safety. Thirty members of the public attended and had an opportunity to ask questions.  The next Town Hall event is scheduled for Thursday, April 27 at 5:30 p.m. at the Edison Community Center and will focus on the City’s Community & Library Services Department.

Women in S.T.E.A.M. Career Panel

In celebration of Women’s History Month, Central Library Theater invites you to a panel discussion on Thursday, March 30, from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. featuring highly successful women in the fields of science, technology, engineering, art, and math. 

This year’s panelists will include two travel nurses, a technical video game artist, a senior civil engineer, a published children’s book author, and a NASA-trained astronomer. The panelists will share their experiences, career path journey, and inspirational advice and will also engage with the audience members directly during a Q&A session. Citizens Academy

On Thursday, March 22, HBPD hosted the students from Class 41 of the HBPD Citizens Academy, which focused on crime scene investigation and taught participants about fingerprints, shoe prints, as well as the police utility belt. The HBPD Citizens Academy is a nine-week program that takes place on Thursday evenings from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and is designed for Huntington Beach residents to learn about the Police Department; the first day of the course also included a Police Department tour.

Sparky the Fire Dog’s 72nd Birthday

Sparky the Fire Dog and CRR Staff attended Sparky’s Birthday Party celebration at Catalyst Kids. The staff read a book about Sparky and talked to the kids about fire alarms. Sparky and CRR Staff watched the Catalyst Kids perform their fire drill. Engine 48 also visited to assist with teaching the kids about firefighting. Additionally, Sparky posed for a photo at Lake Station to commemorate his 72nd birthday.
