Automated Return System

On Friday, May 19, Huntington Beach Public Library debuted its new automated return system (AMHS). The new return system runs more smoothly & allows customers to return multiple books at a time. The return is open 24/7, so feel free to visit the Central Library any time to see the new system in action.

Miss Huntington – 58th Annual Queen’s Rose Garden Ceremony 

On Wednesday, May 24, the City hosted Miss Huntington Beach Katie Chrisman & her court (Princess Coral Gangitano & Princess Roslyn Brown-Bilyeu) for the 58th Annual Queen’s Rose Garden Ceremony. Mayor Pro Tem Gracey Van Der Mark served as the event’s emcee, & members of the Sand Dollars of Huntington Beach organized the ceremony & reception. Miss Chrisman selected the “Double Delight” rose with her grandmother, as she recalled having fond memories of taking care of her grandmother’s own rose garden.

Surf Waves Enjoy Life

Last weekend, members of Surf Waves Enjoy Life (SWEL) came to Huntington Beach to decompress, disconnect, and reinvigorate. SWEL’s mission is simple – to help promote the health and wellness of veterans and first responders, and make their careers and lives rewarding, fulfilling, and happy. Council Member Rhonda Bolton visited the group and presented one of SWEL’s surf coaches, Rob Sanderson, with a commendation from the City.

Sully Miller Lake Clean-up

On Wednesday, May 24, the Huntington Beach Police Department’s (HBPD) Homeless Task Force partnered with crews from the Public Works Department to clean up abandoned encampments and rubbish around Sully Miller Lake.

Together, the teams removed four truckloads of trash. HBPD appreciates the cooperative efforts amongst our City partners to address issues impacting our community.

Marine Safety – Water Safety Challenge

On Saturday, May 20, the Huntington Beach Marine Safety Division hosted the Water Safety Challenge on the service road in front of Lifeguard Headquarters. There were over 50 participants learning hands-only CPR, lifejackets, and beach and pool safety. The event was organized by the OC Drowning Prevention Coalition, JasperRay Foundation, California State Parks, and Boat California.

Hope View Playground

On Wednesday, May 24, Huntington Beach Community & Library Services hosted a Grand Opening Celebration for the new playground at Hope View Park. All Hope View Elementary School students, parents, faculty, community, and school board members were invited to celebrate with a popsicle and play party!
