Staff Development Day on Emergency Preparedness

On Thursday, October 12, the Central Library held a staff development day on Emergency Preparedness. All branches were closed so that all employees could attend this informational day. Emergency Management Administrator Brevyn Mettler and CERT Coordinator Carol Burtis coordinated the morning sessions that were led by the Huntington Beach Police Department and the Huntington Beach Fire Department personnel.

Staff were provided information on how to respond in the event of an active shooter at the library, what to expect when talking with dispatchers on a 9-1-1 call, emergency first aid instruction, when to provide Narcan, how to perform Hands-Only CPR, and how to prepare for an emergency situation such as an earthquake. These types of training sessions provide critical information for City staff to ensure the safety of our residents in the event of an emergency.

Huntington Beach Fire Personnel Attend 2023 California Firefighters Memorial

This past weekend, four Huntington Beach Firefighters traveled to Sacramento to attend the 2023 California Firefighters Memorial. These members performed alongside hundreds of other Pipers, Drummers, and Honor Guard members from all over the State.

The California Firefighters Memorial in the State Capital Park is a unique and stunning tribute to the more than 1,500 firefighters who have died in the line of duty since California became a state in 1850. This year, thirty-five new names were added to the wall during a beautiful ceremony honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
