AES Power Plant asks to increase energy generation to meet regional demand

AES Huntington Beach Energy, LLC (AES) located at PCH and Newland, has filed a petition with the California Energy Commission to increase its operating hours in order to meet regional energy demand.

AES is proposing to increase its operating hours from 6,640 hours per unit per year to 7,640 hours per unit per year. The increase would not require any earth moving activities or physical changes.  The modified hours requested would allow the cycle gas turbines to operate about 21 hours per day instead of the 18 hours per day they operate currently.

The request would not impact startup nor shutdown procedures, nor would the changes impact the operation of the auxiliary boiler and other Huntington Beach Energy Project (HBEP) equipment.
