On December 7, 2021, the Huntington Beach City Council appointed Mayor Pro Tempore Barbara Delgleize to serve as Mayor in 2022. This is the second time Delgleize will serve as Mayor of her hometown, having previously served in the position in 2017. Council Member Mike Posey, who has served on the Huntington Beach City Council since 2014, was appointed as the Mayor Pro Tempore.
“I am honored that my colleagues have selected me to serve as Mayor during my final year on the dais,” said Delgleize, whose term expires in 2022. “Over the past several years, this City Council has spent considerable time and effort advancing a community-centric agenda that prioritizes the development of solutions for key local concerns, and we’ve made transformational advances in Huntington Beach in addressing homelessness, mental health programming, and park and infrastructure initiatives to improve our local quality of life. I am delighted that I’ll have the chance to continue that work as Mayor next year, with Mayor Pro Tem Posey and my other colleagues on the City Council. I am committed to doing my part to bring everyone together, so we can best serve the people of Huntington Beach.”
Delgleize has lived in Huntington Beach since 1974 and raised her family here. She is a residential real estate broker and a longtime member of the Huntington Beach Chamber of Commerce where she served as Chairman of the Board in 2009. She has served on the City’s Planning Commission, Infrastructure Committee, Economic Development Committee, Homeless Task Force, and the 2009 Centennial Committee, celebrating 100 years of Huntington Beach history.
Mayor Delgleize represents Huntington Beach on several regional boards including President of the Board of Directors for the Association of California Cities – Orange County (ACCOC). She also serves as a representative of the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA).
Mayor Delgleize volunteers with many community organizations such as the Huntington Beach Assistance League and the Huntington Beach Council on Aging.
Like Delgleize, Posey was first elected to the Huntington Beach City Council in 2014 and was re-elected in 2018. He has also served on the City’s Planning Commission and the Fourth of July Parade Executive Board.
