City Accepts $5M Clean California Grant for Oak View Neighborhood

The City of Huntington Beach announced today the acceptance of a $5 million grant as part of Governor Newsom’s Clean California initiative. The grant funding was awarded to make safety improvements and beautification enhancements to the Oak View neighborhood. The announcement was made today at a joint press conference with the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans). Representative Michelle Steel and Assemblymember Janet Nguyen were also on hand as their support was critical in receiving the grant.

“The cleanliness and beautification of our City and neighborhoods has a direct correlation to quality of life here in Huntington Beach,” said Huntington Beach Mayor, Barbara Delgleize. “We are thrilled to be accepting this grant and to have the opportunity to invest further into our Oak View neighborhood.”

Thanks to the funding through Clean California, the Oak View Neighborhood will undergo various improvements in the next year. Aspects of the project include pedestrian safety improvements, added traffic and street signage, enhanced lighting and landscaping, and ongoing litter and graffiti abatement. This effort is one of many being made in Oak View. The City recently announced a pilot parking program for residents in the community to aid with parking impacts.

Funding for the Oak View Neighborhood Clean Up and Beautification Project is provided through the Clean California Local Grants Program, which aims to beautify and enhance underserved communities throughout the state. Led by Caltrans, the Clean California Local Grant Program is designed to foster cultural connections and civic pride through a wide range of community enhancements, including litter removal, landscaping, art installations, walking and bike paths, and other complete streets features that promote safety and access to transportation.

“The Clean California Local Grant Program presents a profound opportunity for Caltrans to partner with cities throughout California and lead the charge as we transform public spaces to create a cleaner and safer environment,” said Steven Keck, Caltrans acting Director. “Our investment in this project will yield many returns to the neighborhoods that need it the most.”

As part of Governor Newsom’s California Comeback Plan, the Clean California initiative is a nearly $1.1 billion, multi-year clean-up effort led by Caltrans to remove litter, create jobs, and beautify state and public areas, with a focus on historically underserved or excluded communities.
