Each year Parenting OC comes out with its Reader’s Choice awards with top businesses, libraries, skateparks and more.  This year, Huntington Beach was well-represented on the list. 

Best Skate Park – Vans Off the Wall Skate Park – Huntington Beach’s Vans Skate Park was named the best skate park in Orange County.  This 35,000 square foot skate park is filled with rails, bowls, stair sets, rollers, gaps, and best of all, it’s all FREE. 

Best Storytelling Time – Huntington Beach Public Library – The HB Central Library and its four branches throughout the city is much more than a repository of books to check out.  There is a children’s library, teen space, literacy programs, a digital library and of course, storytime. 

Named the best storytelling time in the county, Huntington Beach offers baby and me storytime, toddler storytime, family storytime, preschool storytime, bilingual storytime, and even virtual storytime through its YouTube channel. 

Best Dog Beach / Dog Park – Huntington Beach may be the only city in the county that has both a dog park and a dog beach.  Dog Beach is a mile and a half stretch of sand located on the coast between Goldenwest and Seapoint where our canine companions are welcome to run and play off leash in the surf. 

If your pup prefers a park to the surf, travel inland for the Central Park dog park.  Located on the east side of Edwards Street between Ellis and Talbert, dogs are allowed off leash once they are in the park if they are well behaved and are up to date on their licenses and vaccines. 

Best Place to Catch Your First Fish – Huntington Beach Pier – Who among us didn’t at least try to catch their first fish off the HB Pier?  At 1,856 feet long, there are plenty of open spots for fishing.  Everything from croakers to white seabass can be caught off the HB pier. 

And while fishing from the beach requires a fishing license, fishing from the pier does not!  So drop a line and test your luck!
