The City of Huntington Beach is the only City in California to make the top 10 in WalletHub’s 2023 ranking of “Best & Worst Cities for People with Disabilities” – ranking 9th on the list. The next closest California city on the list was Irvine, coming in at #19, then Riverside at #26.
To determine the “Best & Worst Cities for People with Disabilities,” WalletHub used three factors – economy, quality of life, and health care. With the physical and economic challenges of managing a disability in mind, the company compared 33 key indicators of disability-friendliness. Data sets ranged from physicians per capita, to the rate of workers with disabilities, to park accessibility.
In the United States, 27 percent of adults have a disability that impacts their major activities. The national acknowledgement for Huntington Beach as a ‘Best City for People with Disabilities’ is a testament to the hard work of city leaders and staff and their ongoing work to provide accessibility for all. From rolling out multiple Mobi-Mats so all guests can easily access our coastline & parks, to offering adaptive programs and play equipment, the City is always looking for innovative and creative ways to improve.
