HBPD Collaborates with Local School Districts on Bicycle & E-Bicycle Safety

The Huntington Beach Police Department (HBPD) is proud to announce its collaborative efforts with the Ocean View School District, Huntington Beach Union High School District, and the Huntington Beach City School District to introduce a comprehensive Bicycle and E-Bicycle Safety Policy for students. This innovative safety initiative aims to enhance road and safety awareness and ensure safe commutes for middle and high school students who use bicycles or e-bicycles to travel to school.

With an increasing number of students relying on bicycles and e-bicycles as their transportation to school, ensuring their safety on the road is a top priority for the HBPD and our local schools. The joint program represents a proactive approach to addressing safety concerns and promoting responsible riding practices among young cyclists.

Key Features of the Bicycle and E-Bicycle Safety Policy:

As part of this collaborative effort, middle and high school students who commute to school using bicycles or e-bicycles will be required to participate in a comprehensive bicycle training program. Successful program completion will grant students a registration sticker, authorizing them to ride an electric bicycle to school.

“We are excited to collaborate with our local school districts to introduce this vital safety initiative. By equipping young riders with essential skills and knowledge, we aim to ensure their safety while promoting responsible riding habits,” said Huntington Beach Chief of Police Eric Parra. “This program exemplifies our commitment to fostering a safer community and empowering our youth to make informed decisions on the road.”
