On February 19, 2022, Officer Nicholas Vella, 44, was killed in a helicopter crash off the waters of Newport Beach.  Officer Vella was a 14-year veteran of the Huntington Beach Police Department and is survived by his wife and daughter. 

A memorial service for Huntington Beach Police Officer Vella will be held on March 8 at 10 a.m. at the Honda Center in Anaheim (2695 E. Katella Ave., Anaheim).  The service is open to the public and will be livestreamed on the City’s YouTube channel for those who wish to view it.   

Additionally, the Huntington Beach Police Officer’s Association in conjunction with the HBPD, has established an account for monetary donations to support the family of Officer Vella.  If you wish to make a donation please go to: bit.ly/OfficerVella
