City Approves Oak View Pilot Parking Program

Oak View is the most densely-populated neighborhood in Huntington Beach with 38 percent of renter households considered “severely overcrowded”.  In comparison, just 2% of renter households citywide are considered the same.

This density has led to insufficient parking in Oak View, requiring residents to spend considerable time searching for an available spot.  As part of the City’s continued investment in this low-income community, also known as “Oak View Rising,” the City will provide 50 assigned parking spaces in a nearby parking structure on the corner of Warner Avenue and Ash Lane.  These spaces will be available for a one-year trial period and will be assigned to 50 Oak View applicants via lottery.  These applicants will be able to utilize these parking spaces daily, 24 hours a day.

Staff surveyed the residents and found that nearly all showed a strong interest in the program and many would be willing to pay a nominal fee of $10 per month to secure a space.

The pilot program will run from July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023.  Permits are limited to one per household and will award the 50 permits via lottery based on the applications the City receives in May 2022.  Each parking pass will require a $10 per month fee, which will help mitigate the cost of the program.

More information including the program guidelines and application will be released in May 2022 on www.surfcitybreak.com.
