Coin-only operated meters and printed parking passes are about to be relics of the past in Huntington Beach. City staff have been working hard the last few weeks to remove and replace pay stations at the Huntington Beach Sports Complex, and coin-only operated meters along Beach Boulevard near Pacific Coast Highway.

The Sports Complex was the first to be revitalized by replacing the old pay stations. The pay stations required visitors to print a pass and return to their vehicle to display it on their dash. The new pay stations installed last week request the visitor to input the license plate instead. This improves the experience for the user and allows the transaction to be digital and no longer creates paper waste from printing passes. Eco-friendly digital receipts are now available at the end of a transaction.

In addition to the new pay stations, the Passport Mobile App is now available at the Sports Complex. With this app, parking transactions have never been easier. Visitors can now pay for their parking directly from their smartphones, making the entire process quick, efficient, and hassle-free.

For nearly two decades, coins were the sole method of payment for parking along Beach Boulevard. Coin-only meters were removed and replaced with new pay stations and the Passport Mobile App. This upgrade gives visitors more freedom and flexibility in their parking transactions. Now they can choose from multiple payment methods, including tap-to-pay, credit card, coins, or the Passport Mobile App, depending on their preference and convenience.

Additional upgrades are on the way in the coming weeks for the remaining out-of-date parking equipment located at the Warner docks and on 22nd Street.
