Surf City Seniors on the Go!

A lack of transportation can be a tremendous barrier to accessing both life care services and life enriching experiences. Donation based transportation is available to older adults in Huntington Beach through Surf City Seniors on the Go! Rides are available to seniors 60 years and older on business days from 8:00 a.m.—3:30 p.m. to all destinations within Huntington Beach and to select locations in neighboring cities. Among the destinations, a regularly scheduled shuttle provides rides to the Senior Center at set times to participate in scheduled activities, enjoy congregate lunch or even workout in the gym. In addition, grocery shopping group trips are pre-scheduled based on residential areas each month. The transportation team consists of both staff and volunteers who serve as drivers, dispatchers, and office support. They are safety and customer service trained to provide an excellent experience to community members. At least five-days’ notice is suggested to assure a ride and donations are accepted. For more information or to register, call 714-374-1742.

Care Management Services

The Care Management team works with under-supported Huntington Beach seniors to help enhance quality of life for some of our most vulnerable residents. They can help develop and implement a plan for aging within in the community with a focus on primary needs such as accessing nutrition and care, home safety, socialization, and mobility. Services offered at the Senior Center in partnership with non-profit agencies and volunteers include support groups, one-on-one legal consultation and technology assistance, insurance counseling and more.  Based on individual needs, Care Managers provide a real connection to the community and the support services available.

Home Delivered Meals and Senior Café

Home Delivered Meals is another way Senior Center staff and volunteers team up to provide an essential service to the community. Food insecurity and nutritional risk can prohibit optimal aging for many elders. Health, mobility, isolation, and financial burdens can all contribute to older adults being nutritionally at-risk. Home Delivered Meals are provided each weekday to those who qualify, are homebound, and are unable to attain nutrition otherwise. A phone screening & home assessments determine eligibility based on guidelines set by Meals on Wheels OC (meal provider). Potential recipients who are 60 years or older and live in Huntington Beach may call 714-374-1717 and leave a message to be added to the interest list.

As an alternative, those who can travel are encouraged to enjoy lunch with others at the Senior Café on Monday, Wednesday, and/or Friday.  If you are signed up for Surf City Seniors on the Go!  transportation is available to and from the senior center. A daily set menu is available each month at the Senior Center. Lunch is available to seniors ages 60 years of age or older on a donation basis and is served at 11:30am.
