Volunteer Appreciation Fair

On Saturday, April 15, the Senior Center in Central Park held the annual Volunteer Appreciation Event. The event was themed “County Fair” and featured a photo booth station, caricature artists, dessert station, taco truck, and more! Volunteers at the Senior Center assist in a variety of areas to support the center’s daily functions, programs, and services. Last year, approximately 380 volunteers served over 40,000 hours at the Senior Center, which equates to a pay equivalent and cost savings to the City of over $1.4 million. Together, volunteers and City staff help to make Huntington Beach a great place to age and thrive.

Hope View Playground

Hope View Playground is under construction and is anticipated to be completed by mid-May. New playground equipment, rubberized surfacing, and an accessible swing will be included in this project. Additionally, staff worked with Hope View Elementary School to coordinate the playground colors to match the school colors.

Central Library Power Outage

While the Central Library remains closed due to lack of power, the internet has been restored at all other Library branches. Work continues on electrical repairs at the Central Library which staff has confirmed was caused by equipment failure, not due to tampering. Crews are assessing multiple components of the extensive electrical distribution system in their efforts to identify a permanent solution. We hope to have more information in the coming days as to when permanent repairs can be expected.

Central Park Restroom Improvements

The sixth and final Central Park restroom improvement project is nearly complete. The restroom building located in Central Park East near Gothard Street has been remodeled and now includes two unisex ADA-compliant restrooms and two unisex standard restrooms. The structural improvements include repairs to the existing building components that were corroded due to water damage.

Sunset Beach Greenbelt Parking Sweeping Restrictions

After a 90-day trial period for street sweeping services in the Sunset Beach greenbelt parking areas, the Sunset Beach Community Association has requested the removal of the parking restrictions that would allow street sweepers to clean the parking areas along the Sunset Beach greenbelt between North and South Pacific Avenues.

The restrictions will be eliminated after sweeping is completed for the month of April and parking will be allowed on a daily basis, but will still be subject to any applicable remaining restrictions. Street sweeping on both North and South Pacific Avenues will continue as usual with the same parking restrictions that have been in place for many years.

For questions or concerns regarding these changes, please contact the City’s Traffic and Transportation Manager, Bob Stachelski, at (714) 536-5523
