HB Jubilee 2024 – Join Us for a Year of Celebrations!

The City of Huntington Beach will commemorate many significant milestones in 2024 through a year-long Jubilee Celebration. To honor the array of occasions, the City will feature special stories, activities and events throughout the year. Each month will feature a location, facility, or program that has reached a significant anniversary in our City’s history.

For the month of March, we are looking forward to celebrating our Huntington Beach Civic Center’s 50 Year Anniversary. The Office of Communications has been working with our City’s Archivist Kathie Schey to develop a documentary video capturing the rich history of our City Hall and Police Station. The documentary will touch upon the importance of combining City services into one place, and the work it took to erect the facilities we have today.

Additionally, Central Park and Edison Park are celebrating 50 years, the Community Services Commission and Department are celebrating 75 years, and the Boy Scout Log Cabin in Lake Park is celebrating 100 years. Upcoming celebratory events include the annual Arbor Day Tree Planting Ceremony in Central Park on March 15, the Lake Park Log Cabin’s 100-year Anniversary Pancake Breakfast and Open House on April 20, and a grand recognition reception on June 15 at the Senior Center in Central Park to celebrate Central Park’s Anniversary.

Remembering Officer Nicholas Vella

On Monday, February 19, the HBPD came together alongside the Newport Beach Police Department and Mayor Gracey Van Der Mark to honor the memory of our beloved brother, Nick, on the second anniversary of his line-of-duty passing.

The HBPD dedicated a memorial locker at the heliport to honor Nick’s legacy. This hallowed space will serve as a place for all to reflect on his remarkable life and service.

Nick’s spirit will live on in our hearts, and we will always treasure the memories we shared with him. In loving memory of Officer Pilot Nick Vella – a hero who will never be forgotten.

Serve City Hosts Record Attendance for HB System of Care Presentation

On Tuesday, February 6, representatives from our Homeless and Behavioral Health team achieved a remarkable milestone in our City’s mission to serve and support our community. Hosted by Serve City, the team presented on the Huntington Beach System of Care to over 120 attendees, far surpassing the initial goal of 50. Individuals from various backgrounds and organizations came together to learn and engage about our System of Care and how to get involved.

Together with the Be Well team, social workers shared about the crucial work Huntington Beach does, emphasizing our approach to referring clients to the Navigation Center, connecting them with vital supportive services, and the importance of collaborating with local organizations. Furthermore, the team outlined avenues for community involvement, whether through volunteering or donations, illustrating how every individual can play a role in making a difference.

This event wasn’t just about numbers; it was about fostering meaningful connections, igniting a passion for community service, and creating a ripple effect of positive change. Through collaboration, education, and collective action, we are not just addressing the immediate needs of our community but building a stronger, more resilient network of support. As a result, at least 8 faith-based organizations and one congregation pledged their commitment to join our City’s efforts in making a difference in our community.

As we reflect on this success, we are reminded of the power of community and the profound impact we can make when we come together with a shared purpose. Our Social Services team is deeply grateful for the support of Serve City, the Be Well team, and all the attendees. Together, we are truly making a difference, one step at a time.
