Dr. Raymond Neutra, son of architect Richard Neutra, will be at the Huntington Beach Central Library (Rooms C & D) on August 26, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. to present a lecture based on his book Cheap and Thin: Neutra and Frank Lloyd Wright.
Dr. Raymond Neutra is the younger brother of Dion Neutra, who designed the Huntington Beach Central Library with his father. The architecture of Central Library is in the nature-near design approach that descended from Frank Lloyd Wright through his father, Richard Neutra.
When Dion Neutra designed the Huntington Beach Library in 1970, he was continuing a nature-near design approach that descended from Frank Lloyd Wright through his father Richard Neutra. His younger brother, Dr. Raymond Richard Neutra, will present an illustrated lecture based on Dr. Neutra’s book Cheap and Thin: Neutra and Frank Lloyd Wright. It will highlight how Wright’s “ten points” were utilized by both Dion and Raymond to produce an aesthetic that was appropriate for affordability and prefabrication. Justin Neutra, Dr. Neutra’s son, will also show excerpts from a video interview with his uncle Dion from 2000.
We are thrilled to have the Neutra family explain the design approach of Central Library and the connection to the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright and share special footage featuring architect, Dion Neutra. Registration is required for this event. To learn more and to register, visit the Library’s webpage.
