Every summer, the Premier Girls Fastpitch (PGF) National Championship comes to Huntington Beach and with it comes thousands of visiting softball players and their family members. Approximately 625 teams competed this year between July 21 and August 6. In total, nine age divisions played on forty-two fields throughout Orange County, including the Huntington Beach Sports Complex. The final division championship games were aired on ESPN, Bally’s Sports West, NBC Universal, and Flow Sports, all of which bringing valuable exposure to Huntington Beach. The PGF 2022 economic impact study showed that the event generated $60.1 million in direct spending in the county, which translated to $5.4 million in generated taxes.
Opening Ceremonies for the second week of tournament activity were held at the bandstand at Huntington Central Park on Monday, July 31. More than 5,000 attendees were welcomed by the Mayor and City Council Members and were treated to an afternoon of entertainment from the stage, vendors, and food trucks.
