Summer Recreational Programming is in Full Swing

The summer season is in full swing. The Programs and Services Division of the Community and Library Services Department is enjoying the hustle and bustle that summer brings, adding more programming during summer months, increasing day camps and overall programming to offer a multitude of opportunities for everyone to recreate.

Mid-Summer Highlights Include:

  • 767 youth have participated in swim lessons and over 700 participants have been to recreation swim at the City Gym and Pool.
  • The implementation of a new youth summer basketball league has been a great success. In its inaugural year, this league has surpassed expectations with 132 participants across three divisions.
  • Summer concerts at the Senior Center are wildly successful and are sold out events. Two events have hosted over 600 participants so far this summer.
  • The implementation of a new event, Grandparents’ Day at the Senior Center. This intergenerational sold out event is going to be held on Saturday, August 5, and is expected to be a great time for over 200 participants.
  • Camp HB has reached its midway point this summer and served over 299 campers in the first five weeks of camp. Each week explores a new theme and activities. Campers are having a great time and parents are just as excited about their experience. When surveyed, a parent stated, “Thank you so much for making this camp so amazing. [My daughter] has been having the time of her life the last couple of weeks. You have everything so well organized and the whole staff is fantastic and makes things so easy.”

Summer is only half way complete, and we have plenty of opportunities left to enjoy summer programming. Movies in the Park will begin Friday, August 4, and the Overnight Family Campout will be hosted in Huntington Central Park on Saturday, August 19.
