September 20 Proclaimed California Surfing Day

When thinking of California what are some of the first things that come to mind? For most of us it is the beautiful sunshine, the beach, and surfing! Get ready to enjoy one of California’s iconic pastimes during California Surfing Day, Wednesday, September 20.

California Surfing Day was first proclaimed in 2018 when both the California Assembly and Senate passed Resolution SCR 122, which was introduced by Senator Janet Nguyen. This Resolution proclaimed that September 20, 2018, and every year thereafter, is the official day that celebrates the California surfing lifestyle. However, most notably this Resolution was developed with the help of dedicated Huntington Beach City members within the surfing and ocean enthusiast communities.

What better place to enjoy California Surfing Day than here in Huntington Beach!  Grab your board and get ready to hang 10! Not a surfer? Take a surf lesson and get your stoke on! Other ways to celebrate include visiting one of our local surf shops, or tour our own International Surfing Museum in Downtown HB.

California Surfing Day is a wonderful opportunity to explore the rich history the sport has had in becoming such an integral representation of California and gain a greater appreciation of the natural beauty of our beaches.
